Good morning dear Paige Academy Families,
We are reading a new book about dispersing and travelling of seeds far and wide! In this book we learn how seeds travel through wind, water and various animals.
Plants produce seeds that can grow into new plants, but if the seeds just fall to the ground under the parent plant, they might not get enough sun, water and the nutrients from the soil. Because plants cannot walk around and take their seeds to other places, they have developed other methods to disperse (move) their seeds. The most common methods are wind, water, and animals.
The title of the book is "Who will plant a tree?" A squirrel buries an acorn. A dolphin pushes a coconut into an ocean current. A camel chewing a date spits out the seed. What do they all have in common? Each one in its own way has helped to plant a tree. In myriad ways and diverse environments Mother Nature is given a hand in dispersing seeds that eventually grow into trees.

Here is the link to the video, please watch it multiple times with your child so that concepts are understood clearly. There are many vocabulary words explained as we go...please take a minute to note down those vocabulary words so that you can review the words later on with your child. Also, work with your child at answering the "Thinker Questions" after you watch the video. Enjoy!

Thinker Questions: 1.Tell about how a seed can travel on an animal. 2.What kinds of trees got planted by the animals? 3.Did the animals know what they were doing? 4. What kind of tree could you plant?
